Fig 3. Electron-dense mesangial deposits are present in mesangial lupus nephritis WHO Class IIb. There is paramesangial extension of a deposit in the upper left, indicating incipient progression to a proliferative form of lupus nephritis. Reticular aggregates are also present in endothelial cell cytoplasm (transmission electron microscopy; original magnification x8,000).
